Effective fall 2023, the University will update its course modalities to the following:
New Mode | Old Mode | Update |
---|---|---|
OS - Online Synchronous | DL - Distance Learning | 1:1 mode replacement |
OA - Online Asynchronous | WW - Online | 1:1 mode replacement |
OB - Online Blended | N/A | New mode |
SL - Service Learning** | SL - Service Learning** | Mode will remain the same |
P - In Person | P - In Person | Mode will remain the same |
PR - In Person Remote | N/A | New mode |
HB – Hybrid | HB – Hybrid | Mode will remain the same |
HL - Hybrid Limited | HR - Hybrid/Blended Reduced | 1:1 mode replacement |
N/A | SP - Split | Mode will be removed without a replacement |
AR - By Arrangement | AR - By Arrangement | Mode will remain the same |
** Service Learning will be phased out as a mode of instruction once the capability exists for students and faculty to denote these classes by other means.
To assist with these immediate changes given the timeframe of data to be entered into BMS, we have adjusted any current fall 2023 and spring 2024 sections in BMS for the 1:1 replacements listed above. This means that the only modes that any fall 2023 or future semester section should have listed is one of the nine modes listed in the ‘New Mode’ column above.
Moving forward, as you review and update your schedule in BMS, please be sure to ONLY use the nine new modes listed above. The old modes will be listed in the drop down for a while longer. Also, we are asking departments to make sure to review their modes to ensure that a class is still listed as intended, even though we did the 1:1 replacements. For example, if a section was labeled as WW, it will now be changed to OA; if the intention of the section is OB, then the department would update in BMS directly from OA to OB.
